Southside Theatre Guild Adult Improv Workshop

Lenton Lees, an improv veteran, professional actor, and director of the adults and youth improv teams, will lead the Southside Theatre Guild Adult Improv Workshops. He can be reached at lentonlees@gmail.com with questions or ideas. We encourage you to make all the workshops for the whole lesson, but we understand life gets in the way, and we hope to see you there as much as possible.

Every Sunday in August, 3:00 - 5:30 PM 4th, 11th, 21st, 28th Please wear closed-toed shoes, 18+ (we have a youth workshop from 1 - 3 on Sunday--contact Lenton for details)

The workshop will conclude with a non-mandatory 60-minute Graduation Show on September 8th, 1:00 PM.

Whether you're organizing a team-building event for work or distracting a class of uber-hyper youngsters, the laughter-filled world of improv is a valuable addition to any form of entertainment. Our improv workshops, designed to be both entertaining and beneficial, promise a hilariously good time for all while you stretch your creative muscles in a team atmosphere.

From Goal 1 (being a team player) to Goal 5 (being a story-teller), our classes bring out the best in veterans and bring beginners up to speed through original Goals of Improv, STG-specific games, and a group of directors who have experienced all the highs & lows in this art. Every class emphasizes the individuals and their creative wants/needs. "Be Yourself" is our top rule of improv, and we let our students shape our courses as they move along. No performer is the same, and that's the best part of it!

The workshop experience will guide players through "5 Goals" to help them become comfortable with all aspects of improv and performing. The workshop is for more than just actors; it is for anyone looking to develop their communication skills, no matter where you want to take those skills. It's suitable for all levels of experience; beginners are especially welcome. Improvisation appeals to business professionals keen to improve their public speaking, teachers hoping to engage students more meaningfully, and anyone who wants to have purposeful fun while meeting new people.

1. Be A Team Player
2. Be Accepting
3. Be Affected
4. Be Believable
5. Be a Story-Teller

With a grand emphasis on "Be Yourself."

Southside Sidekicks Auditions

The Southside Theatre Guild Sidekicks (Adult Improv Team) will hold in-person auditions on Sunday, September 8th, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM. Sign-ups begin at 2:30 PM. These auditions are for ages 18 and older.

The Southside Sidekicks recast their troupe heading into every new season and are looking for 8 to 12 talents who have bypassed the beginner stage and understand how to perform improv. These are not improv classes or stage lessons but a collection of players who have fine-tuned their skills to the point that we can all lift each other up and correct our mistakes. If you have never tried improv, then we recommend attending our August workshop. But if you're experienced in our world of silliness, please consider attending.

We will also look to add some crew members to work offstage with the director. Please note on your audition form if you are interested and experienced in those areas (stage manager, tech booth, hosting, concessions, assistant directing).

The Sidekicks 2024/2025 Season includes weekly rehearsals (3:30 - 6:00 on Sundays), special events, and ten scheduled shows: October 12th, 2024 November 9th, 2024 December 14th, 2024 January 18th, 2025 February 15th, 2025 March 15th, 2025 April 12th, 2025 June 7th, 2025 July 12th, 2025 August 9th, 2025

Contact Lenton Lees with any questions.

"I can't make the rehearsal date, but I am interested!" We'll work with you to schedule an alternative rehearsal whenever possible.
